The pandemic forced societal changes around the world due to several restrictions in government and business operations. Most of the people were encouraged to work from home as much as possible. Accelerated digital and contactless payments

To prevent the spread of the virus, cash payments were discouraged. As a result, different industries shifted to use of contactless payment schemes to pay for goods and services. Also, utility payments and cash transfers in digitalized format were faster due to the availability of high-speed internet and improved devices.  

Remote working is more effective

The use of technology platforms facilitates remote working through enabling virtual meetings, use of private networks, voice over Internet protocols and facial recognition technologies that allows the person to use virtual backgrounds. Remote working also provided more flexibility and added more productive hours by saving time from unnecessary meetings. 

Distance learning has improved

Due to the high infection rate of the coronavirus, all in-person classes were ceased  and institutions started offering online classes via Google or Zoom to ensure the continuity of education. New online technologies involve the use of artificial intelligence-enabled robotic teachers. Students became more skilled in terms of technology, making them think critically and become innovative.

Telehealth consultation made possible

Telehealth was made to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but most importantly to provide essential primary care to patients.  Through the advancement in technology, the doctors can diagnose the patients via chat box or video conferencing, and provide necessary guidelines or prescriptions in real-time. Remote networks and devices can be set-up for patient monitoring and online care by capturing and submitting data information to healthcare organizations. Artificial intelligence-enabled robotic assistants perform patient diagnosis, monitoring and clinical care in remote areas. They are also being used for disinfecting areas and surfaces, as well as food deliveries during the quarantine. 

These advancement in technology has played a big role in ensuring and maintaining on-going activities, and has a big impact on individuals. This will also lead to more opportunities in the tech industry.
